After two years in the planning and approval stages, Chucksters is embarking on an ambitious expansion project for the 2009 season. Highlights of the completed project include:

GO-KART TRACK which will feature a timing system that will time each car separately for their race; results will be posted on a scoreboard and the driver with the best lap time will be awarded a free ice cream! All cars will be two-seaters with no extra charge to bring a passenger along. Cars will also be electric and have a top speed similar to other tracks you've seen, but with much faster acceleration and responsiveness, and these will be better for the environment and for our nearby neighbors.

CLIMBING WALL with four routes varying in difficulty, 27 feet high; all climbers will be on an automatic belay system which will lower them to the ground safely in the event of a fall.

THE JUMPSTERS which will allow participants to jump and flip up to 18 feet in the air while launching off a large inflatable jumper, being harnessed from the sides for complete safety.

MORE PARKING--26 spaces are being added to the existing lot, in addition to staff parking spaces on an adjacent strip of land that the town of Chichester graciously gave us this past March. Here is the progress of the construction:

March 23: We've been stockpiling boulders for retaining walls for several weeks; as if there aren't already enough rocks at Chucksters
March 24: Big tree in the way? No problem, just pick it up and move it...
March 24: All the downed trees went into an enormous chipper that takes the chips to a wood-burning power plant
March 26: The Four Corners guys are cutting into the slope to create the parking lot, using the fill to build a road to the track area
April 1: The last of the clearing has been done in the track area
April 9: Rob from Four Corners completed most of the retaining wall for the enlarged parking lot; the light poles on the right were the back of the previous parking lot
April 15: Yet another retaining wall under construction to level the area where the climbing wall will be installed in about two weeks.
April 23: It was easier to go over the building than around it.
April 23: Someone had to be first to make sure the belay system actually works...it works perfectly and safely!
April 24: Yet another retaining wall at the track site being built.

May 13: Sorry for the delay in posting photos; we've been hard at work, but not much of the work has been "photogenic." Importing fill, balancing the site, all the underground utilities and drainage, setting light poles, and prepping the track base have been done and we're still on schedule for June 15 opening.
May 26: Conduit being laid underground to the track area
May 26: In addition to building beautiful retaining walls out of boulders, Rob can build with blocks also...
June 4: Justin and his crew installing a new fence on the southern property line (good fences make good neighbors, right?)
June 10: Due to the expansion, we are adding additional capacity to our septic system under the plaza.
June 10: It's always fun to watch guys who are good at what they do, especially if they're creating a unique go-kart track.
June 10: The track surface will be very smooth and fun to drive on; why concrete instead of pavement? The surface will be smoother, more fun and challenging to drive on, better for the kart tires, cooler, and will last longer.
June 13: Jack preparing the tires that will be part of the safety rail surrounding the track.
June 19: Additional septic tank and leach field capacity is required with this expansion.
June 19: Fortunately the crane was on site to help unload the 3,000-pound pallets of go-karts...
June 19: Dan giving the "okay" to our track timing scoreboard posts; again, another good use of the crane...by the way, be sure to visit "Dan's Corner" while at Chucksters, and if you're lucky enough to see Dan, tell him you love the rock he selected for the center of the landscape bed.
June 26: Culvert being installed across the walkway to the track.
June 26: The final touches to the pit building are done.
June 29: Mounting the scoreboard that will display each drivers' lap times throughout the race.
July 3: Setting the light poles to light the track for night use.
July 3: Building the pedestrian bridge over the track into the pit area.
July 3: Cody nearing the end of stretching chain link fence around the entire track.
July 4: Opening Day for the go-karts; people love the track and karts and this already seems like a popular addition to Chucksters. We have a few finishing touches to make the track even more appealing; thanks for your patience and please come check it out for yourself!

March 24: Step one is to clear the trees from the new parking area; why not bring in a 42-ton machine to cut them down?
March 24: What's not to love about a machine that can do this?

March 24: Within hours, the new parking area was cleared and they moved on to clear the go-kart track area
March 26: This will be a pedestrian walkway to the track area at the back

April 9: Cleaning up the mess for tomorrow's opening
April 9: The Four Corners guys clearing enough parking lot area for tomorrow's opening

April 23: Our climbing wall arrived this week; we planned to back it into place on its trailer, but that didn't work, so we lifted it into place.
April 23: The wall will live where the party tent was previously located.
April 24: The go-kart track site is almost balanced; drainage system goes in next.

April 24: New walkway being paved in front of the climbing wall; the wall and Jumpsters will be opening Next weekend!
May 10: This is an interesting time at Chucksters, as we're open and busy while construction is going on at the track portion of the site; thanks, everyone, for your patience, and your enthusiasm and anticipation about the go-karts is encouraging...

May 26: The pit building is well underway and should go up quickly
June 4: Brian is busy finishing part of a new walkway between the Chuckster's plaza and the new go-kart track area
June 4: The track is completely prepped for concrete pouring; it's easy to see that the track will not be boring to race on...
June 10: Justin decided to pour the concrete for the entire track in one day; with the help of several concrete companies and their equipment, many workers, and good weather, this was completed efficiently and well.
June 10: This was the final section of concrete being poured, within eight hours of starting.
June 13: Casey and Cam building our go-kart maintenance building.
June 13: Each of the hundreds of tires needs to be attached to the concrete, be able to drain, and mount to the steel rail that will border the track.
June 19: Trusses being installed on the pit building roof.
June 19: Half of our shiny and new 18-kart fleet.
June 24: The roof is going on the pit building, creating a dry space after the week-long rain...
June 24: Roll-up doors and windows on the pit building being installed; the overhead chargers will keep the karts fully charged between races.
June 26: The fleet is ready to go; these karts are fun to drive! Everyone's first question is "how fast do they go?" Answer: Fast enough to be very fun, safe, and addictive.
July 2: Paving the queuing line area.
July 2: Dan prepping some steel pieces of the pedestrian bridge that will go over the track. Despite the constant rain, Dan and the others have been welding, drilling, and mounting the steel rail system around the track; this bridge is one of the last things to finish before opening to the public this Saturday.
July 2: Finishing the electrical hookups in the panel.
July 2: Each tire in the rail system is bolted to rebar and drilled into the concrete.
